Landscapes Unlimited’s Lost Rail Golf Club named Golf Inc. Magazine ‘Clubhouse of the Year’

(LINCOLN, Neb.) – Golf course developer and construction company Landscapes Unlimited’s Lost Rail Golf Club in Gretna, Neb. was voted “Clubhouse of the Year” by Golf Inc. Magazine.

It is the second award the year-old Lost Rail received from the magazine.  In June, it was named one of the world’s top three new private clubs.

Landscapes Unlimited’s project goal was to create a clubhouse that blends elegance with classic character.  Golf Inc. judges loved the achievement: “Beautifully appointed.  Such a warm and inviting space.  Lovely selections.”  Furthermore, “it’s a second home with a first-rate view.”

From afar, the 10,517 square-foot clubhouse resembles a 1920s home with chimneys, gables and dormers adorned in lime-washed brick.  Featuring 20-mile panoramas, it sits high on a bluff overlooking the Elkhorn and Platte rivers, gleaming during the day and striking in presence at night.

The interior presents a small number of elegant rooms which are easy to navigate, a formal dining room, boardroom, locker rooms, offices and a “killer” bar with massive windows.  The features are simple but timeless: fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, intricate crown molding, dark wood floors and vintage furniture. Windows are strategically placed throughout for natural sunlight.

The back patio is central to experiences.  Members hang out with a drink on the covered porch, waiting to cheer (or heckle) the next group on the 16th tee or 18 green.  A few steps north, a natural amphitheater with fire pits and bluegrass creates an intimate setting.  Socializing late into the night after watching the sun set on the rivers is common.

“In Lost Rail, we developed is a remarkably comfortable gathering place to unwind, both playing 18 holes and making memories over a glass of wine,” says Jim Flynn, President of Landscapes Unlimited’s development arm.  “The project team worked in lockstep to make the clubhouse welcoming, impressive and rewarding.”

Landscapes Unlimited worked with A/O Architectural Design, Lund-Ross Constructors and interior designers Myrna Kubly / PK Flynn.

In turnkey fashion, from initial planning to Lost Rail’s opening, Landscapes Unlimited managed all development aspects of the golf course, clubhouse, infrastructure and support facilities.

Given Lost Rail’s pure-golf focus, there are no tennis and pickleball courts, swimming pool, fitness center, card room or banquet room.

Designed by Scott Hoffman, built by Landscapes Unlimited and operated by sister company Landscapes Golf Management, the par-71 golf course stretches 7,200 yards with 30-second walks from green to tee.  There are neither homes nor roads across 155 acres.

An abandoned, 100-year-old Burlington Northern railroad line that once connected Omaha, Neb. to Sioux City, Iowa is incorporated on several holes.  Most trees and native vegetation were retained while still allowing for wide fairways and lending to environmental sustainability.  The property boasts 40-foot ravines, one of many Lost Rail signature characteristics.

The routing that traverses an enjoyable and breathtaking combination of authentic twists through wooded corridors into parkland golf scenarios, then plunges into ravines into pastureland reminiscent of classic, links-style courses.

Situated roughly 30 minutes from downtown Omaha yet presenting a getaway vibe, travel time for members and guests is minimized, so they enjoy the club more frequently.

Membership was all but sold out prior to opening in mid-2022, testament to Landscapes Unlimited and Landscapes Golf Management’s stellar reputation for building and operating, respectively, in-demand golf clubs and experiences.
