Apparel sales down third consecutive month

The latest retail sales figures are published this week by Golf Datatech for US golf apparel and we note a decline for the third consecutive month.

Despite falling by 3.7% in the month of September, golf apparel sales still remain 4.1% ahead on a year to date basis (YTD) thru the end of Q4.

Only two of the eight apparel categories had higher sales in September 2023 than in 2022, led by the largest category (Men’s Shirts) which were up 2.7%, while Outerwear was up 3.2%.

The largest declines for the month were in Bottoms, with Women’s off 16.9% and Men’s down 14.2%.

Said GDT co-founder, John Krzynowek, “The pendulum has swung toward the negative on golf apparel during Q3 of ‘23, although none of the declines over the past 3 months have exceeded 4%, and YTD sales are still up 4.1%.  While sales in September of ’23 were lower than last September, it’s worth noting that this latest month is the second highest September ever recorded for golf apparel, and compared to pre-pandemic 2019 sales are still more than 50% higher.”
