Des Moines, Iowa (December 6, 2023) – Putts & Pins, a bar and restaurant featuring gamified mini golf, duckpin bowling and arcade games is now open in West Des Moines. Located near the Jordan Creek Town Center, the new food and entertainment destination has an electric pop vibe inspired by '80s and '90s rock culture. The venue also has a ‘Backstage’ event space available for private parties, complete with exclusive access to a mini golf course, duckpin-bowling lanes and full-service bar. Putts & Pins is open Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.; and Sunday until 10 p.m.
The tagline, ‘Eat & Drink, Golf & Bowl,’ is context for the venue’s unique combination of activities, while also illuminating the ownership’s vision to deliver a premier dining experience beyond the entertainment offerings.
“From the beginning we knew that we wanted to give the Des Moines community a place to come enjoy time and time again, so we focused on creating a memorable ambiance with plenty of games and activities, a food menu that’s actually delicious, and a great selection of beer, wine and spirits,” said Mitchell Kann, who is a local real estate developer and co-owner of Putts & Pins alongside his brother Eric Kann. “We really want everyone to feel welcome to enjoy Putts & Pins however they’d like, whether you’re coming for just apps at the bar, dinner out with the family followed by a little friendly competition, or a big crew for bowling, mini golf and a good time.”
The opening menu features familiar American fare with an elevated twist. Aptly named to ignite nostalgia, crowd-pleasers include Shake ‘n’ Bake Chicken, Not Your Canned Spaghetti O's, Walkman Wings with Chef’s own sauce, Not Your Dorm Room Ramen and Do Anything For Love Meat Loaf, which is house-made with a signature beef blend. Shareable appetizers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and bowls round out the expansive food menu; and the bar is fully stocked with spirits, craft cans, seltzers, and zero-proof libations, while 12 taps pour local brews and other draft favorites. Rock-themed cocktail recipes complement the food menu with equally imaginative names like the mezcal-based ‘Oasis,’ and green-hued gin concoction, ‘Green Days.’
Putts & Pins features two interactive 9-hole mini golf courses (‘Rewind’ and ‘Fast-Forward’) with automated ball tracking and scoring with points awarded for bonus and trick shots, trivia questions and speed of play. The venue also has four duckpin-bowling lanes, where bowlers use a smaller ball than in traditional 10-pin and roll three [smaller] balls per frame instead of two. In addition, Putts & Pins features a full arcade with billiards, shuffleboard, vintage arcade games and TVs tuned to sports and entertainment. Reminiscent of an underground rock club, the interior décor is moody, with patterns, neon and jewel-toned accents that add warmth and energy to the inviting space.
“At Putts & Pins, we've brought the spirit and attitude of the 80s and 90s back to life through decor, ambiance, and music,” said Putts & Pins General Manager James Carter. “Our goal was to create a local spot where games and activities motivated gathering and celebration, and where people can come to enjoy great food and good times, together!”
