MIDLAND, Mich. – Tournament officials announced today that the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, the LPGA Tour’s signature annual team event, will be renamed the Dow Championship. The Dow Championship will take place Thursday through Sunday, June 27-30 at Midland Country Club with an increased purse of $3 million.
The tournament’s new name celebrates the tremendous growth and stature the event has achieved in its first four years, while elevating the tournament’s entire community – including the players, local businesses, volunteers, nonprofit partners and the Great Lakes Bay Region – as champions.
“Dow founded this LPGA Tour event with the vision of building community and accelerating the growth and awareness of everything the Great Lakes Bay Region has to offer,” said Carlos Padilla II, executive director for the Dow Championship. “We look forward to continuing to champion the Great Lakes Bay Region through this unique LPGA Tour event.”
Each year, the Dow Championship is estimated to have generated a significant economic impact of more than $20 million in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The event has contributed more than $2 million to local nonprofits since 2019 and each year collaborates with more than 250 local businesses and suppliers.
As the LPGA Tour’s signature annual team event, the Dow Championship features a field of 72 two person teams competing over 72 holes in both alternate shot (foursome) and best ball (foursome) formats. Cheyenne Knight and Elizabeth Szokol captured the 2023 edition of the tournament.
The Dow Championship will commemorate its fifth anniversary in 2024. Alongside the official LPGA tournament, the week-long community event includes activities for the entire family, including the Eat Great Trail, an on-site STEM Center for kids, a youth golf clinic and more.
In 2019, this event became the first-ever GEO Certified® LPGA event. The certificate is an internationally recognized award for sustainability in golf. The tournament has achieved certification again in 2021 and 2022, and is awaiting 2023 results.
