Dallas, TX (Feb. 23, 2024) — The inaugural Arcis HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Collegiate Golf Championship is set for February 24–26, 2024 at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Florida. The event will showcase 17 HBCU men’s and women’s golf teams in three rounds of competition.
As important as the high-level tournament play, participants will also have opportunities for social interaction and career development with peers, sponsors, and business leaders. The three-day tournament will also include gourmet dining experiences and entertainment.
“This inaugural collegiate competition holds significant importance for us. Hosting this event reflects a strategic underpinning of our company because our collective success depends on making the game of golf, on-course experiences, supplier relationships, and careers more inclusive,” said Blake Walker, Founder and CEO, Arcis Golf. “We are grateful for the support from our event sponsors and volunteers to help make this a memorable championship tournament for the participating HBCUs and their student-athletes.”
Event sponsors include UKG/Great Places to Work, Skins and Pins, Ahead, Corkcicle, Golf Genius, PUMA, Toro, Under Armour, Golf Galaxy, Winner’s Award Group, as well as golf associations—LPGA, USGA, and AJGA—and countless in-kind contributors.
Arcis Golf—the second largest owner and operator of private, resort and daily fee golf facilities in the United States—provides ongoing opportunities for HBCU golfers to practice and hone their skills at approximately 70 clubs across the country. This ensures HBCU student-athletes have dedicated places to practice and play beyond the tournament schedule and/or their collegiate home courses.
The Club at Weston Hills, which is owned and operated by Arcis Golf, is home to two magnificent 18-hole golf courses created by world-renowned designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., of which The Players Course will be utilized for the Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship. No stranger to high-level competition, the club has hosted the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic (1992-1995), the Dan Marino Celebrity Invitational (1992- 2001), the LPGA Chrysler Plymouth Tournament of Champions (1997), and continues to host various USGA qualifying events.
“Arcis Golf is committed to inclusiveness in all its operations and this tournament exemplifies how we can grow the sport for all audiences to help them learn more about the industry and the business of golf,” said Linnet Carty, Corporate Director of Inclusion & Equity, Arcis Golf. “Providing access for these HBCU student-athletes to practice and play on any of Arcis’ private and daily fee courses further demonstrates that commitment.”
Among the firm’s other corporate social responsibility initiatives are golf and hospitality Career Exploration events, Chamber of Commerce inclusion events, and Youth Club in Hand events. The company supports the United States Adaptive Golf Alliance, Women in Golf Foundation Inc., the Original Tee Golf Classic, and conducts an annual “Round Up for Els for Autism” campaign on behalf of the Els for Autism Foundation.
