Venerated writer Michael Bamberger returns to Golf Magazine and Golf.com in new role

Award-winning journalist comes home; among other duties, he will host a new long-form video interview program: Golf Originals with Michael Bamberger, featuring the game’s biggest personalities and thought leaders

New York, NY (March 22, 2024) – GOLF Magazine and its digital expression, GOLF.com, are pleased to announce one of their most revered writers, Michael Bamberger, has returned to the brand.

Bamberger, who spent more than a decade of his career writing for the iconic publication, reunited with GOLF at the start of 2024. Golf fans can once again read Bamberger’s insightful reporting and perspectives on the pages of GOLF Magazine and on GOLF.com.

While continuing to cover golf’s majors, along with other events and trends for GOLF and Golf.com, Bamberger will also serve as the host of a new long-form interview show called GOLF Originals with Michael Bamberger, engaging the game’s most prominent personalities and thought-leaders in compelling and in-depth conversations.

“Golf has a tremendous capacity to create characters in the game,” Bamberger said. “What we hope to do in this series is find some of golf’s great original thinkers and explore and illuminate their lives for the benefit of our audience.”

GOLF Originals, presented in partnership with Callaway, debuted on March 20 and will publish new episodes monthly on GOLF.com and its YouTube page, with shorter segments appearing on Instagram and X.

The premiere episode (available here) features an intimate conversation with the colorful golf commentator David Feherty. Bamberger caught up with Feherty at a Las Vegas bookstore to delve into the fascinating life of the famously quick-witted Northern Irishman. Future episodes will include noted course designer Tom Doak, USGA CEO Mike Whan, and Callaway CEO Chip Brewer, and explore such topics as artificial intelligence in the game and the rise of off-course golf.

"Michael Bamberger and GOLF Magazine are inextricably intertwined, each representing excellence in golf journalism,” said David DeNunzio, Editor-In-Chief of GOLF. "I’m delighted that Michael’s signature style and insights are returning to our brand and serving as the foundation for GOLF Originals.”

Bamberger has written eight nonfiction books including The Second Life of Tiger Woods, which covers Woods' win at the 2019 Masters. He is also the author of four autobiographical books on golf: The Green Road Home (1986); To the Linksland (1992), a new version of which will be published this month to commemorate its 30th anniversary; This Golfing Life (2005) and Men in Green (2015).

“Michael’s distinctive and indelible writing and reporting is unparalleled in golf,” said Jason Adel, CEO of GOLF Magazine and GOLF.com. “This new facet of his career, as host of GOLF Originals with Michael Bamberger, will further showcase his talent and storytelling ability in a fresh and dynamic way.”

Captured in a wide variety of settings across the country, each episode of Golf Originals will peel back the layers on golf’s most compelling personalities. Viewers will learn how golf has shaped each of Bamberger’s subjects… and how each subject is shaping the game. Golf’s audience can expect to see and hear something new, something unexpected, and something original.
