U.S. Golf Association: Selects Chambers Bay, in University Place, Washington, as the host site for the 2028 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, May 20-24. This will be the seventh USGA championship awarded to the public golf course in its 17-year history. The club has previously hosted four USGA championships — the 2010 U.S. Amateur, the 2015 U.S. Open, the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Chambers Bay will also host the 2027 U.S. Junior Amateur and the 2033 U.S. Amateur.
Virginia State Golf Association: The Virginia Golf Hall of Fame will induct J.P. Leigh, Jane Mack, Tom Strange and Robert Wrenn as its Class of 2024 at its Induction Ceremony, Oct. 22 at Hermitage Country Club in Manakin Sabot, Virginia. Leigh, 76, is one of only eight players to win 10 VSGA championship; Mack won five VSGA titles, including four Women’s Amateur Championships over a span of three decades; Strange, father of twins Curtis and Allan, was a longtime head golf professional who won five VSGA titles and played in six U.S. Opens; and Wrenn, 64, has made his mark in several aspects of golf — as a player, broadcaster and golf-course design consultant — winning three State Open of Virginia titles and once on the PGA Tour. Mack and Strange are being inducted posthumously.
