Contra Costa Country Club members raise $54,000 for breast cancer research and awareness

Pleasant Hill, Calif. (November 7, 2024) – Members of Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. recently raised $54,000 for PLAY for P.I.N.K.®, a national charity funding breast cancer research, with more donations still coming in. Funds were raised through a September 13th golf tournament, dinner and silent auction for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the last two years the Club has raised $99,000 for breast cancer research and awareness, and since 2012 more than $192,000.

"The 2024 Annual Contra Costa Country Club's Play for P.I.N.K. Golf Tournament Fundraiser was a huge success," said Committee Chairs Andrea Nakagaki, Danita Stevens and Joan Weinstein. “We owe a big thank you to our General Manager, Ryan Ott and our Club President, Don Stanners for their compassion and support for Play for P.I.N.K.; a cause very dear to their hearts, as well as many other Club staff and Members. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our Members and supporters, we are proud to share that we raised $54,000 for breast cancer research. We are excited to see what next year's event will bring."

More than 200 Members and guests participated in Contra Costa Country Club’s PLAY for P.I.N.K. events. This year's format included various "themed" auction baskets donated by each of the Club's 13 committees, along with individual member donations. The event featured a fun-filled golf tournament, dinner, silent and live auction and a compelling evening program with Susan Desmond-Hellman Medical Director of Oncology at John Muir Health, Dr. Tiffany Svahn serving as the guest speaker. Dr. Svahn shared informative and educational advice on the latest genetic testing, breast cancer research, treatments, and preventative measures. Dr. Svahn was joined at the dinner by John Muir Health CEO Mike Thomas.

PLAY for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) supports a nationwide network of volunteers who raise money for breast cancer research through sporting and lifestyle events to speed advances in prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship. PLAY for P.I.N.K. donates 100 percent of its proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

About Contra Costa Country Club
Offering one of the finest and purest tests of golf in Northern California, Contra Costa Country Club provides a unique environment that is both family-friendly and socially enriching. The club has golfers of all skill levels with beginning players able to quickly learn and improve, while also challenging some of the Bay Area’s better players. The club’s 18-hole golf course was redesigned by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. in 2014-15, creating a modern experience while still fully respecting the 1925 original intent of architect A. Vernon Macan.  Meandering through 145 acres of oak, eucalyptus and redwood, the course is framed by dramatic mountain and valley views. Remaining as a long-standing initiative, Contra Costa continues to utilize reclaimed water when irrigating the golf course.

Contra Costa offers a variety of programs available for men, women, seniors, and junior golfers alike. Membership at the club truly offers a priceless investment for a lifetime of enjoyment for members and their entire families. The cornerstone of Contra Costa is the spacious clubhouse; offering spectacular views from atop an oak-shaded knoll with a beautiful pool, pool house and recreation area located nearby.
