Cognizant Classic: To honor longtime golf writer Jeff Babineau, who passed away on Dec. 9, 2024, with the Tim Rosaforte Distinguished Journalist Award. During his career, Babineau covered hundreds of professional golf tournaments across the PGA and LPGA tours, major championships, Presidents Cups and Ryder Cups. He served as the president of the Golf Writers Association of America from 2015 to 2017 and was the organization’s secretary at the time of his passing.
United States Golf Association: Announces qualifying sites for the 45th U.S. Senior Open Championship, to be held at The Broadmoor’s East Course, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 26-29. The Broadmoor is hosting its third Senior Open and ninth USGA championship. For the first time since its inception in 1980, the U.S. Senior Open will feature a qualifying framework that is comparable to the U.S. Open with two stages that includes local and final sites. The establishment of 24 local exemptions will include, but are not be limited to, PGA Tour Champions winners from the last five seasons, the top 75 players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings as of March 26, winners of select state senior opens and state senior amateur championships in 2024 and the top 25 age-eligible players from the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of March 26. Online player registration will continue through Wednesday, March 26, at 5 p.m. ET.
