Sun City Hilton Head begins renovation project on Okatie Creek Golf Course

Bluffton, South Carolina (April 17, 2025) – Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, South Carolina recently began a six-month renovation project on its Okatie Creek Golf Course. XGD Systems and TDI golf course construction company are the contractors on the project, which is focused on enhancing turf conditions and playability of the 6,719-yard, par-72 golf course. The project is anticipated to be completed, and the course reopened by October 1, 2025.

Designed by former PGA TOUR professional Mark McCumber, Okatie Creek opened for play in 1995. The course winds its way through the pines and marshes of the Carolina Lowcountry and has 15 lakes spread throughout the property. As part of the course renovation, all greens will be hulled out and re-grassed with Tif Eagle turf, while fairways and tee boxes will be re-grassed with Celebration turf. New drainage systems will be added in all fairways to provide for improved turf health and more consistent playing conditions.  The Club’s practice facility will also be renovated and increase in size by 50 percent. When complete, the updated practice facility will have an expanded practice tee to accommodate up to 50 hitting stations and an all-new short game area with a dedicated putting green, chipping green, and bunker practice green.
