Tamarack Golf Course reopens West Course following 18-month renovation

East Brunswick, New Jersey (June 19, 2025) – Tamarack Golf Course in East Brunswick, New Jersey reopened its West Course on Thursday, June 12, 2025, following an extensive 18-month, multi-million-dollar golf course renovation project. Owned by Middlesex County and managed by Indigo Sports, a Troon Company, Tamarack Golf Course features two 18-hole championship golf courses – East and West – both originally designed by Hal Purdy. Mark Mungeam of Mungeam Golf Design served as the golf course architect for the renovation project, while Turco Golf was the contractor.

Tamarack’s West Course renovation project began in the fall of 2023 and focused on enhancing every aspect of the 50-plus year-old course, including:

  • A new state-of-the-art irrigation system was installed throughout the course to enhance turf health and promote water conservation.
  • New drainage lines were added to help provide optimal playing conditions.
  • All 18 greens on the West Course were rebuilt to United States Golf Association (USGA) specifications and seeded with bentgrass, known for its smooth and consistent playability.
  • Fairways were reshaped and re-grassed with creeping bentgrass.
  • Tee boxes were laser leveled and re-grassed with low-mow Kentucky Bluegrass.
  • Approximately 75 new tee boxes were also added, allowing the course to stretch to more than 7,000 yards from the championship tees.
  • Every bunker was also completely renovated, incorporating a technically advanced drainage and liner system featuring Capillary Concrete. This new generation lining method increases the speed at which water flows through the bunker, minimizing washouts, reducing maintenance and producing superior playability.
  • Plus, new and upgraded cart paths throughout the course.

“Our goal with the West Course renovation was to elevate the playing experience while maintaining the integrity of the course’s original design,” said Tamarack Golf Course General Manager Dave Mummey. “Mark Mungeam and Turco Golf have done an amazing job with the renovation. We’re excited to welcome golfers back to enjoy these improvements and experience a course that is both visually stunning and exceptionally playable.”

“I am very excited about the upgrades made to Tamarack West,” said Mungeam. “The renovated course will be fun for all golfers, with enough strategic options and challenges to captivate the best players and beginners.  Tee expansions allow the course to be played at any length from 4,900 to 7,000 yards.  Though the corridors are the same as the original course, each hole has been completely rebuilt and the nines have been reversed.  The gently rolling land through woods and streams provides a delightful setting.  I firmly believe that Middlesex County residents will enjoy and embrace the “New” West Course.”
