Country Club of York to host 2029 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, 2035 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball

They will be the second and third USGA championships hosted at the Pennsylvania club

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2025) - The Country Club of York, in York, Pa., has been chosen by the USGA as the host site for the 2029 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and the 2035 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championships.

“We are excited to return to the Country Club of York,” said Mark Hill, USGA managing director, championships. “The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a rich history of hosting USGA championships, and these two events will certainly add to that. This venue will provide an ideal setting for two exciting and competitive championships.”

The Country Club of York was founded in 1899 as a nine-hole course on a site one half mile north of the club’s present location. Designed by World Golf Hall of Famer Donald Ross and constructed by his team in 1927, the present course sits in the rolling hills of York County, less than 60 miles north of Baltimore and 100 miles west of Philadelphia.

In 2014, Andrew H. Green was commissioned to create a master plan for the restoration of the original Ross design. The goal of the project was to modernize the design while respecting the history and heritage of its Ross design.

In addition to completing restoration work on nine holes over the past 10 years, a short-game area was added to the practice ground in 2016, and a restoration of all 59 deep-faced bunkers was completed in 2022. Using Green’s master plan based on the original drawings of Ross, restoration of additional holes will also be completed prior to both USGA championships.

“The Country Club of York is honored to host the 2029 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and 2035 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball,” said Stephen Wilson, vice president of the club’s Board of Governors. “We are very proud to once again be selected to partner with the USGA to provide our 102-year-old ‘Golden Age’ gem as a true test for these players. On behalf of our membership, we are excited to welcome some of the world’s best amateurs to our great club and to York for both of these prestigious events.”

The club celebrated its centennial in 1999 when it hosted the 52nd U.S. Junior Amateur, its only other USGA championship. Future PGA Tour winners Hunter Mahan and Camilo Villegas met in the final, with Mahan earning a 4-and-2 victory.  That championship still holds the record for most entries in U.S. Junior Amateur history at 4,508.

The Country Club of York has hosted numerous national and state championships, including the Pennsylvania State Women’s Golf Association Amateur (1974, 2011), the Pennsylvania Golf Association Open (1989, 2014), the Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur (1994, 2005), the 2012 Women’s Eastern Amateur and the 2021 Philadelphia Open, as well as being a U.S. Open local qualifying site for the past nine years.

Pennsylvania leads all states with 95 USGA championships (through the 2025 season). The upcoming championship in 2029 will be the fourth U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur contested in the state, with the last coming in 2023 at Stonewall, in Elverson. The 2035 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball will be the first time the relatively new championship (debuted in 2015) is played in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur is open to female amateur golfers with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 9.4 and who have reached their 25th birthday by the start of the championship. The field of 132 players competes in two rounds of stroke play, after which the field is reduced to the low 64 scorers for six rounds of match play. The champion earns an exemption into the following year’s U.S. Women’s Open. The 2026 championship will be held Aug. 29- Sept. 3 at Montclair Country Club in West Orange, N.J.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball is open to female amateur golfers of all ages. Each member of the side must have a USGA Handicap Index® of 14.4 or lower. A starting field of 128 players, or 64 sides, will compete in two rounds of stroke play before the field is cut to the top 32 sides for match play. Five 18-hole rounds of match play will determine the finalists, who will square off in an 18-hole championship match. The 2026 championship will be held May 2-6 at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C.
