Scottsdale Golf Retreat at Troon North makes key leadership appointments

Hospitality veteran Thomas Ulrich named resort manager and golf industry veteran Tom Pavao named director of sales and golf experience.

Scottsdale, Ariz. (December 3, 2025) – Scottsdale Golf Retreat at Troon North, the Valley’s newest luxury stay-and-play resort property, announces two key leadership appointments, naming Thomas Ulrich as resort manager and Tom Pavao as director of sales and golf experience. Located steps from Troon North Golf Club, the 26-suite property is currently under construction and will open in early 2026.

Ulrich has more than two decades of leadership experience in luxury hospitality, serving in senior management roles with Hilton, Marriott, MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Resorts. A Certified Hotel Manager, he specializes in hotel pre‑openings, renovations, and operational turnarounds. Over his career, Ulrich has held general manager positions for Hampton Inn Del Mar and TownePlace Suites Las Vegas, director of operations at Embassy Suites Las Vegas, and hotel operations manager at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Ulrich brings a proven record of delivering world‑class service and innovative guest experiences to Scottsdale Golf Retreat. He is fluent in German and has been recognized for driving revenue growth, elevating guest satisfaction, and mentoring diverse teams.

Pavao brings two-plus decades of knowledge in creating exceptional member experiences and in luxury golf operations to his new role as director of sales and golf experience at Scottsdale Golf Retreat. A Class A PGA Professional since 2005, he has led world‑class facilities at Pine Canyon Club in Flagstaff, The Silverleaf Club in Scottsdale, and most recently at Barbuda Ocean Club in the heart of the West Indies for Discovery Land Company. Throughout his career, Pavao has designed and delivered hundreds of memorable events, elevated service standards with thoughtful touches, and built welcoming cultures that made members feel valued and engaged. His proven ability to transform golf clubs into vibrant communities will now translate into unforgettable resort guest experiences, blending personalized service with the highest standards of hospitality. In this new role, Pavao will be charged with curating bespoke experiences and packages for Scottsdale Golf Retreat guests and visitors.

Set on a 2.7-acre parcel just west of the Troon North clubhouse, Scottsdale Golf Retreat features a 26-suite property will include 20 four-bedroom, four-bath ensuite suites, and six two-bedroom, two-bath ensuite rooms, making it an ideal location for large or small golf groups, private executive retreats, golf packages/buddy trips, wedding parties or a “friendscation.” Each four-bedroom, four-bath ensuite suite will be approximately 1,615 square feet, while the two-bedroom, two-bath ensuite units will be approximately 700 square feet.
