Maketewah Country Club, a Donald Ross designed course, made its debut in 1929 and recently completed an award-winning renovation led by renowned architect Brian Silva in 2023. Maketewah Country Club is known as one of the longest-standing U.S. Open qualifying courses, and in 2025 hosted the Western Golf Association’s Women’s Western Junior Championship.

Regarded as one of Ohio’s premier golf venues, Maketewah Country Club traces its roots to 1897, when it opened as the Avondale Athletic Club, and was founded in 1910 led by Barney Kroger and William Procter. In 1911, members moved the club to its present location, one of five founding members of what is now the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association, with renowned architect Donald Ross enlisted to design the city’s first 6,000-yard championship course. In 1929, the club officially adopted the Maketewah name, and in 2023, architect Brian Silva completed a multi-million-dollar renovation and restoration project paying homage to Ross’ original design and course identity.
