SAN FRANCISCO, California(May 6, 2026) ー The PGA of America has named Jason Soucy as Championship Director for the 2028 PGA Championship, which will be played May 18-21 at The Olympic Club (Lake Course) in San Francisco, California.
This appointment marks Soucy’s second stint as a championship director for the PGA Championship. He guided the 2025 edition that delivered record-setting hospitality sales at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We are thrilled to have Jason leading the 2028 PGA Championship at The Olympic Club,” said David Charles, PGA of America Senior Director of Championships. “The Club boasts a rich and distinguished history of hosting Major Championships. We are tremendously proud to add the PGA Championship to that legacy. Jason’s comprehensive expertise in championship management will be instrumental in delivering a world-class 110th PGA Championship.”
Soucy returned to the PGA of America in November 2022 following more than 13 years as Director of Business Development for the Travelers Championship. He’d previously served as Championship Director for the 2001 and 2003 Senior PGA Championships, as well as Operations Coordinator at the 1999 Ryder Cup matches.
A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Soucy’s career also included stops as Vice President of Sales/Tournament Director at IMG Golf and Assistant General Manager/Director of Sales at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.
“I could not be more excited for the opportunity to lead the PGA of America’s onsite efforts at the 2028 PGA Championship,” said Soucy. “The PGA Championship’s historic debut at the Olympic Club marks a significant milestone as the strongest field in golf will compete on the West Coast for the first time in eight years. The Club’s longstanding tradition in hosting Major Championship golf coupled with a community well versed in hosting make this a tremendous opportunity to conduct a memorable PGA Championship. I look forward to collaborating with the Club as well as local business and community leaders as we prepare for 2028.”
The Olympic Club has hosted numerous Major Championships, including five U.S. Opens (1955, ‘66, ‘87, ‘98, 2012) and one U.S. Women’s Open (2021). The Lake Course will host its first Ryder Cup in 2033.
Designed by William Watson and constructed by Sam Whiting, the original Lake Course opened for play in May 1924. Due to storm damage, the course had to be redesigned and reopened in 1927. The Lake Course remains true to the 1927 design with minimal renovations in the intervening years.
In 2023, Gil Hanse and his team completed a renovation of the Lake Course and construction of the new Lombard Putting Course. The update features larger greens that connect more naturally to the surrounding bunkers and provide a larger variety of pin placements for both day-to-day and championship play. The fairways were expanded by 25%, allowing for new fairway bunkers throughout the course, including the reintegration of historic bunkers on the 18th hole.
