Haig Point Club announces Project Harmony focusing on next era of golf, community development

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. (May 20) -- Haig Point Club & Community Association has a clear and comprehensive vision for its future called Project Harmony.

The Club has formally approved Project Harmony, a multi-year and multi-point investment initiative, signaling a rare level of alignment within a private, member-owned club and positioning the community for its next phase of growth across golf, infrastructure, and residential development.

Set on Daufuskie Island and accessible only by boat, Haig Point has long been recognized as a distinctive golf destination, anchored by its Rees Jones–designed Signature Course, which has previously been ranked among America’s Top 100 courses.

Project Harmony, a $40 million investment, builds on that seaside lifestyle foundation with a clear objective: to restore, refine, and modernize the club’s golf offerings while aligning infrastructure and residential growth to support long-term value.

“Haig Point already has all the touchpoints of an exceptional golf and club experience,” said Don W. Hunter Jr., CEO/General Manager. “This initiative, agreed upon by 77 percent of the membership, is about polishing what is already a very strong golf course and modernizing it for today’s game, while creating a more complete and flexible playing experience for our members and enhancing the island lifestyle that is uniquely Haig Point. ”

Restoring and Modernizing a Proven Golf Asset – Haig Point’s Signature Course
At the forefront of Project Harmony is a commitment to elevate the Signature Course through continued investment in infrastructure, agronomy, and playability.

The course, which has historically been recognized among the nation’s best, will benefit from a strong list of refinements that include:

• Continued investment in course infrastructure and agronomic systems
• Integration of previously scoped bunker restoration and enhancements
• Long-term planning for irrigation and turf sustainability
• Strategic adjustments designed to better align with modern playing expectations

The following significant revisions, from Rees Jones, are planned:

  • Reshaping, realigning and laser-leveling all tees
  • With the exception of holes 1 and 15, all greens will be partially rebuilt with an emphasis on regrading all approaches
  • Complete re-build of greens 1 and 15
  • Reshaping all bunkers to a modern style
  • Bunkers reconstructed using Bunker Solutions
  • Fairways regraded
  • Greens to be re-grassed with TifEagle
  • Fairways, tees, rough to be re-grassed with Tahoma 31
  • Vegetation management in and around wetlands to open hole and water views
  • Cart path repair and maintenance as needed

Under the leadership of Director of Agronomy Randy Moody, course conditions have already shown meaningful improvement, with strong winter performance and a disciplined approach to maintenance and planning.

“This is not about reinventing the course,” Hunter added. “It’s about restoring and refining it in a way that brings it back to its full potential while ensuring it performs at a high level for years to come.”

Elevating the Osprey Course into a Premier 9-Hole Experience
Project Harmony will transform the Osprey Course, under the direction of Rees Jones, into a high-quality 9-hole golf design that compliments the Signature Course and expand splaying options for members.

The goal is to create a course that:

• Delivers a complete and engaging experience in a shorter format
• Matches the overall quality and conditioning standards of the Signature Course
• Provides flexibility for families, casual play, and time-constrained rounds

“The opportunity with Osprey is significant,” said Hunter. “We believe it can become one of the best 9-hole experiences in the region, something that not only supports our membership but enhances the overall golf offering at Haig Point.”

Critical improvements on the Osprey Course include:

  • Completely new irrigation system
  • 21 new forward tee options to create a new par-3 course
  • New short game practice area

All work on the Signature and Osprey Courses will be conducted in three phases over a three-year period.

  • Phase 1 on Osprey Course and Short Game Area -- Late 2026 to November 2027
  • Phase 2 on Signature Course Front 10 – Early 2028 to November 2028
  • Phase 3 on Signature Course Back 10 – Early 2029 to November 2029

From 2026 through 2029 with the goal of having 18 holes of golf available to membership for that three-year period.

Duininck Golf will handle the on-course construction work on both courses.

Logistics Transformation: New Barge Company Launching in April 2026
A key to the success of Project Harmony is the establishment of a new barge company, whose operations began in April.

For a boat access-only community, a materials transportation company is critical, and the new barge operation will provide:

• Increase efficiency and reliability of material transport
• Reduce construction timelines
• Deliver meaningful cost savings for builders and investors
• Support both golf and infrastructure improvements at scale

“This creates a real advantage for how we build and maintain on the island,” Hunter said. “It allows us to execute more efficiently and with greater control over both cost and timing.”

Residential Growth and Builder Activity Reflects Real Momentum
Project Harmony is already driving measurable progress in residential development as
Haig Point has successfully expanded its builder network, with new partners actively engaged and multiple homes currently in permitting or under construction. The community is working toward a sustainable pace of approximately 25 new homes per year as part of its long-term strategy.

“These are real projects in motion,” Hunter said. “Not concepts, not projections—homes that are being permitted and built today. That’s an important distinction and a strong signal of momentum.”

Alignment as a Competitive Advantage
The 77%-member approval of Project Harmony provides a level of alignment that is uncommon in private club environments and increasingly important in today’s market.

This alignment supports clear decision-making, consistent execution, and increased confidence among prospective buyers and investors.

“Alignment allows us to move forward with discipline,” Hunter said. “It gives us the market confidence that this is a community with a clear direction and the ability to execute.”

SUMMARY -- A Coordinated Vision for the Future
Project Harmony brings together golf, infrastructure, and residential development into a unified strategy designed to strengthen Haig Point’s long-term position among private, member-owned clubs.

In summary, the comprehensive long-term list of improvements includes:

• Development of a new and integrated wellness and fitness center (target 2028
• Expansion of racquet and pickleball facilities
• Continued investment in golf course infrastructure
• Road improvements supported by enhanced planning
• Strategic support for residential construction and growth

As these elements are completed, Haig Point will solidify its commitment to enhance both the member experience and the long-term value of ownership within the community.
