The Players Championship talking points:
▪️ The last six winners of The Players Championship all entered the week inside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking — Rory McIlroy (No. 2, 2025; No. 6, 2019); Scottie Scheffler (No. 1, 2024; No. 2, 2023); Cameron Smith (No. 10, 2022); Justin Thomas (No. 3, 2021).
▪️ With victories by 24-year-old Akshay Bhatia (Arnold Palmer Invitational) and 25-year-old Ricky Castillo (Puerto Rico Open), players in their 20s have now won seven of the first nine PGA Tour events in 2026. Chris Gotterup (26) is the only two-time winner so far this season.
▪️ Patton Kizzire and Seamus Power have Brooks Koepka to thank for getting into this week's field. As part of his return to the PGA Tour via the Returning Member Program, Koepka was added to the field (121) so not to take a spot from a current Tour member. To round out threesomes, the field was officially expanded to 123 as of Monday at noon ET, with the first two alternates at that time — Kizzire and Power — being added to the field.
▪️ Forty-six of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including all of the top 10.
