FIRST THOUGHT

Sam Burns likely has, for good reason, the dates for the Valspar Championship circled on his calendar for as long as he's on the PGA Tour. Burns, 27, has won this tournament two of the previous five times he has played — 2021 and 2022. He also finished T6 in 2023 and owns the lowest scoring average in tournament history at 68.85, ahead of Justin Thomas (69.77), Jim Furyk (70.02), Jordan Spieth (70.18) and Matt Kuchar (70.24).
