Rose Zhang. Hers is a name that just feels like we have been mentioning for quite some time. Maybe it's because she has already racked up an impressive resume — wins at the 2020 U.S. Women's Amateur, the 2021 U.S. Girls’ Junior, the 2022 NCAA Women's Championship and the 2023 Augusta National Women's Amateur — and is just 19. But it's probably because she now owns the record for total number of weeks as the No. 1 golfer in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking — 136. That's roughly 2.6 years, which explains why she has also won the Mark H. McCormack Medal in 2020, 2021 and 2022 as the world’s leading women’s amateur golfer.

MICHAEL VARDEMAN
Director of Instruction, La Cantera Golf Club
The First Call: What advice do you have for someone considering a career in golf?
Michael Vardeman: Pursue your passion. It's very rewarding work, especially for me as a teacher. This has been my love for almost 40 years.
TFC: When you look at your career, in what area(s) do you believe you have evolved for the better? MV: I am a much better communicator and have learned with the golf swing that less is more. Harvey Penick taught me that valuable lesson.
