FIRST THOUGHT

Ben Griffin, 29, is having himself quite the spring to remember. A little over two months ago, Griffin was winless on the PGA Tour and hovering mostly in the 50s and 60s of the Official World Golf Ranking. Then he partnered with fellow non-Tour winner Andrew Novak to capture the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. And Griffin was on his way. After a T8 finish at the PGA Championship, Griffin went solo to win last week's Charles Schwab Challenge. Now No. 24 in the world, Griffin posted an opening-round 7-under 65 Thursday at the Memorial Tournament to hold his first 18-hole lead / co-lead on Tour. If Griffin can continue to his torrid run through the summer, he may just find himself on the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup team. He currently is No. 13 in the point standings, 12 points behind Patrick Cantlay.
