The 78th U.S. Women's Open, which begins today at Pebble Beach Golf Links for the first time, will be a youthful one. First, there are 28 amateurs in the field, including six in the top 50 of the Women’s World Golf Ranking — No. 2 Saki Baba, No. 4 Anna Davis, No. 10 Amari Avery, No. 26 Emilia Migliaccio, No. 36 Ting-Hsuan Huang and No. 43 Maddison Hinson-Tolchard. Only two amateurs have won any major championship, including Catherine LaCoste at the 1967 U.S. Women’s Open. Second, there are 17 players between the ages of 14-19, including 14-year-olds Kaili Xu and Angela Zhang. The youngest to ever make the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open is Marlene Hagge-Vossler (1947, 13 years, 4 months and 13 days). Inbee Park (2008) and Yuka Saso (2021) are the youngest players to ever win the U.S. Women’s Open at 19 years, 11 months and 17 days.
