FIRST THOUGHT

It has been 14 years since Lucas Glover won the 2009 U.S. Open. That title never really catapulted Glover on to more wins, though. He would win the Wells Fargo Championship in 2011, then went 10 years before winning again — the 2021 John Deere Classic. Glover, now 43, is showing some good old form. He fired a 9-under 63 on Thursday to lead the Barbasol Classic. It was his ninth straight round in the 60s, going back to successive top-10 finishes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and John Deere Classic.

ROUNDS AND WEATHER
> Rounds played finished up 3% vs. 2022, driven mainly by drier weather in the Central Valley and Mid Atlantic regions.

The Mid-Atlantic experienced overall drier weather with major markets such as Washington D.C., Charlotte and Richmond seeing about half as much precipitation as last year, resulting in the region finishing up 14% vs. 2022.

In the Central Valley, both Cincinnati and Knoxville experienced cooler and drier weather, resulting in each market finishing up over 19% in total rounds and helping the region finish up 9% vs. last year.

> Pacing over the next seven days is currently up 17% vs. 2022 with all eight regions projected to finish ahead of last year.

The Great Plains currently outpaces last year by 42% with the majority of the upside coming from July 14 where Chicago is forecasted to experience less than 7% of last year's precipitation.

> Weekday and Weekend play normalizes the post-4th of July holiday, with the split returning to just over 40% for weekend play.
PGA/LPGA PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT

GAIL GRAHAM
Director of Instruction, Esplanade Golf and Country Club

The First Call: What made you want to pursue a career in golf?
Gail Graham: As I progressed through amateur and college golf, I saw so many of my peers making it on the LPGA Tour. I thought I would give myself five years to see what I could accomplish. That was 35 years ago.

TFC: What advice do you have for someone considering a career in golf?
GG: If you love the game, then working successfully in the game comes with the realization that your passion will guide you. If you choose to play, you will want to surround yourself with the right people to support your efforts so that you can focus on playing the game. If you are an instructor, then work hard to ensure you know how to communicate well with your students/clients and build strong relationships with them. Invest time in learning everything you can about the game — watch other instructors teach, read articles and books to support your teaching philosophy and be a student of the game.
