OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
➡️ Ryan Fox captured his first major title at the Open Championship, becoming just the second player from New Zealand to win the historic tournament, joining 1963 champion Bob Charles. Fox closed out his week with a 10-under-par total to secure his third career PGA Tour victory in his 94th tour start.
> Fox staged a historic comeback victory after sitting in a tie for 85th place and trailing by seven strokes after the opening round. Fox's 18-hole position is the lowest by any winner in Open Championship history, surpassing the previous record set by Mark O'Meara, who was tied for 62nd after the first round in 1998.
> Fox became just the second player in golf history to shoot a 10-under-par 62 during a major championship and go on to win the tournament, joining Xander Schauffele at the 2024 PGA Championship. Fox is also the first player in Open Championship history to post a round of 62 en route to a victory.
➡️ Tommy Fleetwood finished in a tie for fourth place after carding rounds of 69, 67, 69 and 68. Fleetwood became the eighth player in Open Championship history — and the very first at Royal Birkdale — to post all four tournament rounds under par and not walk away with the Claret Jug.
➡️ Cameron Young recorded a final-round 64 to secure a solo second-place finish, marking his eighth career runner-up result on the PGA Tour. Young, the reigning Players Championship winner, was attempting to join Jack Nicklaus and Cameron Smith as the only golfers to win the Players and the Open Championship in the same season.
➡️ Sam Burns finished in solo third place at 8-under par, securing his second top-three finish in a major championship this season. Burns, who entered Sunday as the 54-hole leader, previously finished as the runner-up at the 2026 U.S. Open and has now placed inside the top 10 in five of his last 10 major appearances.
