BMW CHAMPIONSHIP TALKING POINTS
➡️ World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler enters the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club holding a 1,447-point lead in the FedEx Cup standings following an eight-stroke victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scheffler, the reigning zchampion, is seeking to become the 10th player in history to win back-to-back BMW Championship titles. He currently leads the PGA Tour in greens in regulation (72.94%), top-10 finishes (12), scoring average (68.61) and official money ($20,511,275).
➡️ The BMW Championship returns to Bellerive Country Club for the first time since 2008, when Camilo Villegas captured the title. Adam Scott, making his 443rd PGA Tour start, is the only player in the 50-man field who competed in that 2008 event. Scott, who also finished third at Bellerive during the 2018 PGA Championship, holds the record for the most sub-70 rounds in FedEx Cup Playoffs history with 109.
➡️ Rory McIlroy is making his 16th career start at the BMW Championship, the most of any player since the inception of the FedEx Cup in 2007. The world No. 2 and 30-time PGA Tour winner is attempting to become the first golfer since Tiger Woods in 1997 to win both the Masters and the BMW Championship in the same calendar year.
➡️ All 50 players in this week's field have officially secured exemptions for the 2027 Players Championship and all 2027 Signature Events. Ten players are making their tournament debut at Bellerive, including Michael Brennan and PGA Tour rookie Kristoffer Reitan. Following Sunday's final round, the top 30 players in the standings will advance to the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.
