Data Golf has broken down the Ryder Cup matches since 1983 and if you’re looking for reasons why the United States should win at home next week at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, then here are a few.
> The U.S. has won 52% of all formats played on home soil — including 53.8% in both foursomes and singles. Not surprisingly, the Americans have never been particularly good in the fourball format.
> Interestingly, U.S. rookies have won 56.3% of their matches at home, while players with three or more appearances have a win rate of just 44.7%.
> Lastly, U.S. captain’s picks have won 48.7% of their matches at home, while automatic qualifiers have won at a 52.8% clip.
