BANK OF UTAH CHAMPIONSHIP
➡️ PGA Tour rookie Zach Bauchou fired a bogey-free 9-under 62 to take a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Bank of Utah Championship. Bauchou, who recorded a career-low 18-hole score while leading the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, holds an 18-hole lead or co-lead on tour for the first time in his career. He entered the second event of the FedEx Cup Fall ranked No. 86 in the standings.
➡️ Jordan Smith capped an 8-under 63 with an albatross on his final hole to lead a nine-way tie for second place. Smith’s double eagle on the ninth hole marked the fifth albatross on the PGA Tour this season and the first of his career. Sudarshan Yellamaraju, David Lipsky, Stephan Jaeger, Steven Fisk, Kevin Roy, Kevin Streelman, Nick Dunlap and Austin Smotherman also carded opening 63s.
➡️ Reigning champion Michael Brennan opened his title defense with a 7-under 64 to sit tied for 11th place. Brennan matched his lowest career 18-hole score at Black Desert Resort as he seeks to become the tournament's first back-to-back winner. Six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa posted a 6-under 65 (T17), marking his best round on tour since closing with a 64 at the John Deere Classic.
➡️ Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn paced the contingency of players with local ties, each opening with a 5-under 66. Meanwhile, six-time PGA Tour winner and Utah resident Tony Finau posted a 1-under 70 to tie for 81st place in his debut appearance at the Bank of Utah Championship.
