Question of the week [Sept. 21-27]: What are your thoughts on the PGA Tour's eligibility criteria and membership categories for its Championship and Challenger series that begin in 2028?

I'm OK with it for now. It's new and a vast departure from where we are now, so there will naturally be things we like and don't like. I suspect it will be tweaked from time to time, but for now, I'm in agreement with the format.

It's difficult to have complete thoughts because there are so many moving parts, but I'll do my best. I like the idea of having to earn your way into the elite level, and that goes for the current cache of "elite" golfers as well. They will now have to play better to remain on the top-tier circuit — which includes keeping their bodies in shape and avoiding stupid mistakes that keep them out of work for five or six months. It's not a popularity contest anymore, which means I probably won't get to see as much of my favorite players, but I guess I'll have to make new favorites. Good golfing and good behavior should be rewarded with larger purses and great golf courses.

The Tour has made solid strides to make the Championship Series highly competitive. They are providing clear opportunities to reach the premier level, and there are actually more total playing opportunities than on the current Tour when looking at both series (120 + 144 = 264 total opportunities when both are in action).
