Should Austin Cook emerge from a crowded first-round leaderboard at the
Bank of Utah Championship and win, he should send Erik van Rooyen a thank-you note. Cook only made the field because van Rooyen withdrew on Monday, and he's making the best of his situation. When play was suspended Thursday evening at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah, Cook was 6-under through 13 holes — tied with three others who had already completed their respective rounds. The last time Cook held or shared a first-round lead was at the 2019 Texas Children’s Houston Open when he finished T17. And Cook's last — and only — win on the PGA Tour? 2017 at the RSM Classic in his 14th career start.
