FIRST THOUGHT

Bernhard Langer certainly did not need the PGA Tour Champions to cement his legacy as one of golf's greatest players. His 42 European Tour wins, which included a pair of Masters titles, 10 Ryder Cup appearances and a winning stint as the European Ryder Cup captain in 2004 were more than enough. But on Sunday, when Langer won the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Va., he not only became the Tour's oldest winner (64 years, 1 month, 27 days), but won for the 42nd time — and first since March 2020. Can we take a second to ponder that achievement? Not only does it show his passion for the game, but it underscores that his competitive spirit still runs hot.
