Question of the week [February 9-15]: The Official World Golf Ranking has decided to give ranking points to LIV Golf players for top-10 finishes in LIV Golf League events. What is your opinion?

LIV Golf needs to do its own thing, and I'm not sure it knows what that is. Since the PGA Tour has become LIV, maybe they should try to become a fractional PGA Tour clone. I'm afraid that its current state will collapse at the current trajectory.

I think it was inevitable that the OWGR had to award points in some manner after LIV transitioned to 72 holes. The fact that it limited point allocation to the top 10 finishers is fair and well thought out. LIV and Jon Rahm should shut up and go away happy. If the DP World Tour does not enforce fines and sanctions on LIV players, then the PGA Tour should cut its ties and support of the DPWT.

The decision works for me as I don't have a clue as to the criteria. For all the naysayers, what in the world makes you think you know better?

This is a farce. LIV Golf has chronically weak fields and therefore is non-competitive compared to the legitimate world tours. This shows up when they play on the other tours, e.g. PGA Tour, DP World Tour, where the players are not sharp and not competitive for that level. Brooks Koepka, deliberately or not, was quoted as saying he "hadn't played competitive golf for awhile" and it shows up in his play.

The only way to truly have an Official World Golf Ranking is to open it up to the world’s best golfers, not just the world’s best golfers on the PGA Tour. Open it up to all and leave no doubt as to which players are the best.

Since there are now 72 holes in LIV Golf events and fields are comparable to those on the PGA Tour, it seems logical to award points. One can make the case that the eight signature events on the PGA Tour should not generate points since instead of a field of 144 players, only 72 tee it up. Without players like Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambieu, Patrick Reed, Cameron Smith, etc and with these 50% participant weeks, one can question the easywins for players like Scottie Scheffler. Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Gary Player, etc. all played against full fields with all the top players in every tournament. Let’s restore these world class players to the ranking system. It will prove definitively how great our current PGA Tour pros are and remove any doubts raised about lesser fields.

I think this is a move toward unification. While not a merger, as previously announced, it gives LIV a crack in the door. One must couple this with other progress areas — no more penalties imposed by the DP World Tour, an open door for "the Big Three" to come back to the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka not taking a spot in the field but actually creating two more spots, etc. I can see a time in the future where LIV actually becomes a part of the DP World/Australasian/South African/MENA global amalgamation. Professional golf tours thrive when they are aspirational and not exhibitions. They have a chance to create a model where the highest level of attainment is once again the PGA Tour.

A compromise is like kissing your sister. This is a compromise in that the elite LIV golfers can get into majors, but the rank and file are left out.

Even though I am not a fan of LIV Golf, I feel they should get some ranking points. Maybe they could have spread the points out further than the top 10 finishers, like maybe 15. But if they did that, the total points they are currently giving for top-10 finishes should be spread out for the top 15. This would reduce the amount of points that first place and subsequent places currently get.

They should not give points for any LIV Golf events.

LIV Golf should not have Official World Golf Ranking points.

These LIV Golf events do not have the quality level of players involved. The players decided to take money and leave the one true measure of their play.

They don't deserve any ranking points. It's a bush league.

With night golf, much different crowd atmospheres, other gimmicks and the long played out drama — the LIV Golf creation, the standoff with the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka's and Patrick Reed's return, etc. — just doesn’t allow me to see the need to accommodate LIV any further.

Disagree. LIV Golf players want their cake and be able to eat it too. They made their choice. Let them live in it. Plus PGA Tour is accepting LIV players back too easily, i.e. Koepka, Reed. Always the money.
