Forecast: February 2025

Precipitation will play a key factor in how golf playable days pan out, especially along the East Coast and in the Southeast

KEY FACTOR
As we settle into winter, ocean temperatures are driving key weather patterns that could impact playable golf days in February. A weak La Nina in the tropical Pacific, cooler waters off Mexico and warm waters in the Pacific and eastern Atlantic are all influencing precipitation trends.

Looking at past years with similar conditions (1981, 1984, 1989, 2006, 2009 and 2014), here’s what golf course operators can expect:

PROJECTED REGIONAL IMPACTS FOR GOLF OPERATORS
> Courses from California to the Southwest and Texas to the Ohio Valley should see drier-than-average conditions, likely providing more playable days.

> The Southeast and East Coast should expect conditions close to average, with some areas experiencing slightly more precipitation than usual.

> The Pacific Northwest, Great Lakes, and New England — regions where many courses are still closed for the season — may see a notably wet February.

> For those in drier regions, this could mean an early start to spring prep. For others, keeping an eye on precipitation trends will be key for planning maintenance and staffing.

Peak season is just around the corner, so it’s the perfect time to prepare.
