The Starter: Is the sun setting on PGA Tour's Hawaiian events?

Billy Horschel floats intriguing Ryder Cup idea; A simple fix for TGL; What Shohei Ohtani and Tiger Woods may have in common.

🏌️ The Sentry, held at Kapalua resort in Hawaii, has been canceled as the PGA Tour’s season opener in January due to water issues. Yet, according to Golf.com, the resort is accepting starting times at the Plantation Course starting Nov. 10. Is something else going on here?

The PGA Tour has announced that The Sentry, annually played on The Plantation Course at Kapalua, will not be held to start the 2026 season. The Plantation Course has been closed due to ongoing drought conditions on Maui. While turf health and course conditions have improved to levels that will allow for public play starting on Nov. 10, they are still not to PGA Tour standards. 

🏌️ Now, the first event of the PGA Tour season will be the Sony Open in Hawaii in Honolulu. But almost none of the stars will be there. In fact, a number of players say it’s a long, expensive way to go to miss the cut. Are the Tour’s days in Hawaii numbered?

🏌️ Billy Horschel says the PGA Tour should take over running the U.S. Ryder Cup team because it knows the players better. Good idea?
