The Starter: What would you pay for the Pebble Beach experience?

Rates are now in the $675 range; Anthony Kim continues his comeback; Cricket or the NFL?; Gary Player is upset — again.

🏌️ Chris Gotterup is the year’s first (already) two-time winner on the PGA Tour, beating Hideki Matsuyama in a playoff for the WM Phoenix Open title. Is Gotterup a legitimate star? How do you like that he doesn’t fasten the Velcro on his glove when he hits a shot?

🏌️ Someone dropped a chair in Matsuyama’s backswing at the 18th tee during the Phoenix playoff. You hate to think this but was it intentional?

🏌️ It’s time for the annual What It Costs to Play Pebble Beach. Greens fees are $675 ($695 starting April 1), not including $55 for a cart. Would you pay it once?

🏌️ Anthony Kim, 40, continues his comeback; he signed with 4Aces and was T4 after two rounds of the LIV event in Adelaide, Australia. Don’t you have to think this is pretty remarkable?

🏌️ Bryson DeChambeau topped his tee shot on the par-5 10th at the Grange Golf Club during the first round of LIV Golf Adelaide. He hit the green on his second shot with a 3-wood and two-putted for birdie. By the way, the length of his topped drive: 245 yards. Anyone care to top that?

🏌️ Charlie Woods, son of Tiger, has committed to play college golf at Florida State. Will he have an NIL deal? Does he really need one?

🏌️ PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp missed his first Super Bowl in 23 years after his career with the NFL. Instead, he attended the WM Phoenix Open. Does that make Phoenix the Super Bowl of the PGA Tour?

🏌️ Rory McIlroy says he’d rather watch cricket for five days than watch the NFL. Cricket has a position called “silly mid-off.” What does he do, anyway?

🏌️ Gary Player says Augusta National won’t allow him to play the course with his grandchildren. Does this have anything to do with the club banning his son, Wayne, for trying to market a brand of golf balls during the ceremonial opening tee shot?
