FIRST THOUGHT

When Tiger Woods was at his peak, interest in golf surged. In 2001, according to the National Golf Foundation, rounds played in the United States reached a record-high 518 million. The numbers then dipped slightly and stabilized for several years before beginning a slow decline — hitting 441 million in 2019. Then the COVID-19 era arrived. Rounds played jumped to 502 million in 2020 and set a new record in 2023 with 531, up from 529 a year ago.
