There is no doubt that the par-3 17th island green at TPC Sawgrass' Stadium Course makes for compelling viewing during the Players Championship. With each tee shot some form of the question "Will it stay dry?" is uttered, or at least thought. And it's why statistics of how many golf balls find the water are kept. In Thursday's suspended opening round, the number was 18. That is tied for eighth most in an opening round since 2003 — and the round is not over yet. The first-round average is 17.05 and the most in an opening round is 50 (2007).

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Should the Players Championship, which this week will feature 43 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (as of Friday's field release), be considered in the same discussion as the four majors — if no, why not?
Send replies on this question or other topics and questions you would like to have asked to shall@buffalogroupe.com. For a response to be published, you must include your first and last name, along with city and state of residence. Read last week's responses.
Friday skins games at the 15-hole course just down the road from the TPC Sawgrass' Stadium Course are no less pressure packed than at this week's Players Championship

"There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do."
The First Call readers vary on the topic. Some believe strength of field makes it major worthy, while others cite the championship's lack of tradition and absence of LIV players as dissenting reasons
