Three times in Rory McIlroy's career he has won on St. Patrick's Day. None may have been as enjoyable as Monday when the 35-year-old Northern Irishman defeated J.J. Spaun in a three-aggregate playoff to win the 51st Players Championship. In winning, McIlroy checked off the following:
> Becomes the eighth multiple winner of The Players, joining Jack Nicklaus (3), Steve Elkington (2), Hal Sutton (2), Fred Couples (2), Davis Love III (2), Tiger Woods (2) and Scottie Scheffler (2)
> Earns his 28th PGA Tour win and moves to T20 on the PGA Tour all-time wins list, tying Leo Diegel and Paul Runyan
> Becomes the oldest winner of The Players since 2013 (Tiger Woods, 37 years)
> Posts the highest winning score at The Players (12-under 276) since 2017 (Si Woo Kim, 10-under 278)
