FIRST THOUGHT

Three things to know about this week's Tour Championship:
1. Starting Strokes are eliminated, so the 72-hole stroke-play event begins with all players starting the tournament at even par. The winner will claim the FedEx Cup.
2. The $40 million purse at the Tour Championship ($10 million to the winner) will count as official money for the first time since 2018.
3. Six past FedEx Cup Champions are in the field — Scottie Scheffler (2024), Viktor Hovland (2023), Rory McIlroy (2016, 2019, 2022), Patrick Cantlay (2021), Justin Rose (2018), Justin Thomas (2017); seven players are making their Tour Championship debut — J.J. Spaun, Ben Griffin, Maverick McNealy, Andrew Novak, Harry Hall, Jacob Bridgeman and Chris Gotterup; and none of the 35 2025 rookies qualified for the Tour Championship this season.
