FIRST THOUGHT

A commonly asked question is the following: If the PGA Tour's 2022-23 season is over and the 2024 season does not start until January, then what is the FedEx Cup Fall all about? This week's Fortinet Championship is the first of seven fall tournaments that finalizes eligibility for the 2024 PGA Tour Season. Here are some things to know:
> Nos. 1-50 in the FedEx Cup standings through the 2023 Tour Championship are locked in their positions, while Nos. 51 and beyond carry their FedEx Cup points over.
> Although players in the top 50 are not earning FedEx Cup points, their points are not redistributed; for example, if Max Homa (No. 6) finishes solo-second and Mackenzie Hughes (No. 51) finishes solo-third, Hughes receives the usual 190 points for third place, not the 300 points for second place.
> Nos. 51-60 through the FedEx Cup Fall will qualify for two Signature Events in 2024 — the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational.
> Winners of events during the FedEx Cup Fall receive the same benefits of winners of full-field events during the regular season, including 500 FedEx Cup points, Official World Golf Ranking points, a two-year PGA Tour exemption thru 2025 and invitations to The Sentry, Players Championship, Masters and PGA Championship.
