Amateur Nick Dunlap had the PGA Tour dusting off the record books after winning The American Express on Sunday. In winning, the 20-year-old University of Alabama student-athlete and reigning U.S. Amateur champion became the first amateur to win on Tour since Phil Mickelson won the 1991 Northern Telecom Open. He also became the eighth amateur to win on Tour since 1940, joining Mickelson, Scott Verplank (1985 BMW Championship), Doug Sanders (1956 RBC Canadian Open), Gene Littler (1954 Farmers Insurance Open), Frank Stranahan (1948 Miami Open, 1945 Durham War Bond Tournament), Cary Middlecoff (1945 North & South Championship) and Fred Haas Jr. (1945 Memphis Invitational). He also became the youngest amateur to win on the PGA Tour since Chick Evans at the 1910 Western Open.

ARTHUR PORCELLI JR.
Advisor / principal at First Command Financial Planning
Favorite golf course architect? Pete Dye.
TFC: What advice would you pass along to someone starting a career or is presently in your field?
Arthur Porcelli Jr.: Take your fiduciary responsibility seriously. Be prepared to work hard, especially when starting out and provide excellent service. The payoff is both financially and spiritually satisfying. You know when you have been successful when your clients ask you to help their friends.
Listen. Listen. Listen. When clients open up to you and answer questions that normally they would not share with a stranger, you know you have gained their trust. That trust is sacred. Treat it accordingly. I express to clients, when this occurs it's like going to confession.
What role has golf played in your professional career?
APJ: I have helped numerous folks while playing golf who never become clients. I love to just show up as a single and join a group, and just talk about benefits with questions during the round. Some have become clients and others just know more about the benefits they have earned.
