With a win at the WM Phoenix Open, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler would become the first player to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row since Steve Stricker at the John Deere Classic in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Seventeen two-time defending champions have competed on Tour since Stricker accomplished the feat. Scheffler was at 1-under par through six holes — five strokes back of clubhouse leader Sahith Theegala — when first-round play was suspended on Thursday.
