Is this finally the week when Xander Schauffele breaks through to win his first major? The seven-time PGA Tour champion is off to a quick start, shooting a record-tying 62 in Thursday's opening round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Schauffele tied the 18-hole major championship scoring record he already shared with Branden Grace (third round, 2017 British Open) and Rickie Fowler (first round, 2023 U.S. Open). At 9-under par, Schauffele's three-stroke margin tied three others for the largest 18-hole lead in PGA Championship history. Two of those three players — Bobby Nichols in 1964 and Raymond Floyd in 1982 — went on to win the PGA.
