OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
➡️ Jackson Suber opened his Open Championship debut with a 5-under-par 65 to claim the first-round lead. Suber, who secured his spot through the Open Qualifying Series, is the first player to hold the 18-hole lead in his tournament debut since Dan Brown in 2024. He is seeking his first career PGA Tour victory in just his third major start.
➡️ Southport, England native Tommy Fleetwood opened with a 1-under-par 69 in his 12th career Open Championship appearance. Fleetwood is looking to end a long national drought by becoming the first English golfer to win the historic major championship since Sir Nick Faldo won the Claret Jug in 1992.
➡️ World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler opened with a 2-under-par 68 to sit in a tie for 13th place. Scheffler, the defending champion, is attempting to become the first player to successfully defend his title at the Open Championship since Padraig Harrington accomplished the feat in 2008 at Royal Birkdale.
➡️ Collin Morikawa carded an opening-round 2-under-par 68 to put himself in contention after 18 holes. The 2021 champion is seeking to become the 28th multiple winner in the history of the Open. A victory this week would make him the first player to win the tournament multiple times since Ernie Els in 2012.
