Rory McIlroy, despite all of his struggles in 2024, finds himself in contention once again. McIlroy shot an opening-round 67 at the DP World Tour Championship and is tied for the lead. In order to win a third successive DP World Tour Race to Dubai title, McIlroy needs only to finish 11th or better this week. Currently No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking, McIlroy has finished 2, T2, T25 and T3 in his last four DP World Tour starts. He has 11 top-10 finishes worldwide.

Nippon Shaft: Paul Waring and Ryo Ishikawa played Nippon Shaft steel shafts in winning the European Tour's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and Japan Golf Tour's Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters, respectively. Waring played N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 120 shafts in his irons, while Ishikawa played N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 125 shafts in his irons and wedges.
National Links Trust: Seth Waugh, former CEO and current senior advisor to the PGA of America, will serve as honorary chairman of the Nation’s Capital Project. The project is NLT’s long-term project that seeks to revitalize and rehabilitate Washington, DC’s three historic municipal golf courses — Rock Creek Park Golf, Langston Golf Course, and East Potomac Golf Links. In his role, Waugh will be an advisor to the Capital Campaign committee and serve as an ambassador of National Links Trust.
Todd Eckenrode – Origins Golf Design: Completes a $23 million renovation of the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club, a project that began construction in April 2023. The renovation is a complete re-imagining of the entire course, which opened in late September. Elements of the transformation included renovations to all golf features, from tees to fairways, bunkers and greens and a significant tree management program, opening up sunlight and overall playing corridors.
Arccos: Releases its annual Distance Report, showcasing insights drawn from the company’s on-course dataset that includes more than 1 billion total shots and 180 million driver shots from male and female golfers. This latest report explores data captured in 2023 and show that the average driving distance for men was 225.0 yards, while women averaged 178.1 yards. Distances have remained quite stable over the past six years, increasing 1.0 yards for men and decreasing 1.1 yards for women compared to Arccos data in 2018.
