FIRST THOUGHT

Any player needing a birdie or eagle on the 72nd hole on Sunday to win the 3M Open better brace himself. The 18th hole at TPC Twin Cities was the most difficult par 5 on the PGA Tour schedule last season, playing to an average of 5.105. There were 85 bogeys made (the most of any par 5 in 2021-22), 23 double bogeys (second-most behind No. 13 at TPC River Highlands) and 12 scores higher than double bogey (most). Only two other par 5s, including major championships, averaged an over-par score in 2021-22, and the only par 5 that has played harder to date in 2022-23 is the 14th at Los Angeles Country Club during the U.S. Open.
